Alright model builders, in this fourth step, we’re painting the trim, laser-cut walls, and Tichy windows for our ho scale craftsman kit.
We start out by applying a base coat to our parts of plain flat white primer. This gives the plastic and laser-cut parts some more “sticking power” for the acrylic parts to stick to. Allow the flat white primer to dry to the touch. You don’t want to smear this up with your acrylic paint in the next step! If you apply the paint in a thin coat it will dry faster and it shouldn’t cover up many of the details on your windows and doors.
When I’m applying my acrylic paints, I like to use a sea sponge because it leaves a nice even texture and it removes the possibility of visibile brush strokes on the plastic and smoother laser-cut pieces. The paint also goes on a little thinner with a sponge, so it may require a few extra layers, but it will end up showing a little more detail when compared to a brush (not always the case).
We then let these dry before proceeding to our next step where we’ll actually begin to paint the wood clapboard walls of our kit.
