This is step number 11 of our “How to build a craftsman model railroad kit” and we’re showing you how to paint the hydrocal walls of the Yard Office No3 Kit.

If you’re working with another hydrocal kit from a different manufacturer, you can certainly apply these same techniques to the walls and follow through these next couple of videos for any hydrocal kit.

These walls were first primed with black spraypaint, and yes before you roast us on using black spraypaint primer, just watch to see the end results.

From there we begin to paint! Using brick red and a few variations of similar brick colors, we paint the brick. Adding these small variations will give the brick a more realistic look once we add the mortar.

We do the same technique with the varying stone/block color for the foundation, just using gray acrylic paints. Finally, we cover the wall sections with a little dusting of our white and black/gray chalks to add some realistic weathering and mortar.
