13. Hiding the seam in the corners of Hydrocal Walls – Foundations of Craftsman Kits1 min read

This is step number 13 (yes it’s really 13 this time, we goofed on the numbering) of our “How to build a craftsman model railroad kit” and we’re showing you how to glue and assble the hydrocal walls of the Yard Office No3 Kit.

Once the walls of your Hydrocal structure are glued together and dried, we have to do some work to mask the little seams that are in the corners of the walls.

we want to create a seamless corner on the walls as it would look in real life buildings, and that line clearly isn’t going to be seen on a real life brick structure.

To mask this, we just use a little bit of joint compound or drywall mud that you can pick up from your local hardware store. It’s available in various sizes, so you don’t have to buy the 5gal bucket, and can get it in lesser quantities.

using a conservative amount, you can start to work the joint compound into the seam, and smooth it out to match the wall texture.

let it dry overnight and come back to paint it the next day!
