Bench Time #123: Doug Foscale of FOS Scale Models – The Weathering Episode

Get a pencil and some notepads out, because this one’s full of takeaways!

This is the weathering episode with Doug Foscale and we dig deep into some of our favorite weathering techniques. It was a blast to pick Doug’s brain a bit and get some methods from him.

Some of the model weathering techniques we cover include:

  • Use of a brown sharpie for rust and grime weathering + other sharpies
  • Bragdon and chalk dust weathering favorites
  • Working with AK Asphalt and some of the AK Interactive muds
  • Weathering board-by-board construction for a beaten and worn down board look
  • Making stains with burnt umber paint & mineral spirits
  • Using a grout sponge for painting
  • Doug’s Favorite: Weathering sea walls
  • Crumbling concrete walls w/rebar& deterioration
  • Scratch builds & scratch building materials

We also cover some questions from our patrons, which were also packed with some great discussion points!
