I LOVE making metal roofs and adding metal siding to my structures.
The metal roof, when applied right, painted well and weathered to look like an old rusty metal roof just looks awesome. Now I understand that you don’t have to paint metal roofing/siding to look rusted and worn, but that’s just our style and we like the tired and old feeling for our buildings.
My one main problem with a lot of the metal roofing materials is that they’re made from a corrugated cardstock material that does look great, but it is often very brittle and ends up breaking up into smaller pieces as you handle it. I received it in a few kits before, and though it does look very good, I just find it to fall apart after you begin to work with it and move it around.

In comes Dr. Ben’s Corrugated Material

Dr Bens Corrugated Sheet Metal - HO Scale

While we were at the Fine Scale Modelers Expo in Altoona, I stopped by KC’s Workshop stand and I got a piece of the Corrugated Roofing/Siding Material they had and I immediately noticed that the texture and look of this stuff was the same as the paper version, but this product was more pliable and had a coating that looked like it would take paint better.
After talking to them about it, I was excited to go home and start trying this stuff out!

The dimensions of these sheets are:

1-1/5″W x 5-13/16″L and about 1/32″ thick.

How it performed:

This roofing/siding material is awesome! It comes with one metallic side, but I painted it with an even more metallic folk art metallic paint. The material this roofing is made from took the paint really well and it didn’t need a bunch of additional coats to cover to my satisfaction.

The dimensions of these sheets are
After the metallic paint dried, I took a terracotta and dark brown colored acrylic paint (also from Folk-Art) and dry-brushed rust and dirt on. This layer of paint dried incredibly fast since I dry-brushed it on.

Once all the paint was dried, I simply cut it into sections that fit my roof and glued them down with some plain old wood glue. Just like the paper version, the roof/siding pieces needed to be held down for just a minute or so once they were put in place with the glue.
This is seriously my favorite corrugated material right now. It’s VERY easy to work with, very easy to paint and it is just a great product for our builds.
The other awesome thing about this HO Scale corrugated roofing/siding material is… It’s very affordable for all modelers! Over at KC’s Workshop, you can pick 8 sections of this stuff up for just $5.89.
Check it out, pick some up if you’d like to give it a try, but this is going to be my go-to corrugated sheet metal material from here on!
