We’ve recently been on a kick with Bar Mills craftsman kits for our new layout. Two of the most recently completed kits we’ve completed will be added to our wharf/inlet on the layout.
One of the newest completed kits is the Bar Mills HO Scale Fishing Shack. This kit is a little deceiving because it is small, but the little details and shingle siding make for a good challenge on a small structure.
The finished fishing shack that I completed for our layout features a two tone siding (green and off white) as well as the shingle siding.
We weathered the shack a little more than some of the other buildings on our structure including the metal roofing. This is because it will be an older waterside structure, so the elements would be playing a harder toll on the building.
Custom Detail Parts
One of the neat, small details that was customized for this structure (and a few other future waterside structures are the hand-made customized buoys attached to the side around the decking.
Small hand-made detail parts aren’t very difficult to make, but it’s the small things like this that add a lot of depth to your layout without costing very much at all. Often times you can make these small parts with saved scrap material from sprus and leftover pieces from the parts in the box.
