Model Railroading Podcast

Model Railroading PodcastWe love podcasts!

I mean we’re obviously a little biased toward podcasting as a source of information, but they’re really a great way to tune in, learn, laugh and discover new ideas while you’re working on other things.

We often find ourselves tunning into a wide variety of podcasts from sports, news, comedy and very often, other model railroading podcasts!

I know Todd and myself aren’t discriminatory toward any other model railroading podcasts and we actually like the different styles and niches each different show out there covers within the hobby!

So we decided to keep a running list here of the must follow model railroad and other various modeling podcasts.

The list of shows we provided below is in no particular order and it’s just a running list of shows that we enjoy listening to.

The 6 Must-Follow Current Model Railroad & Modeling Podcasts (running list):

  1. The Bench Time Podcast with HO Scale Customs – (sorry, we had to… shameless plug) Fine Scale & Craftsman Model Railroading podcast by a father & son duo (Todd & Brett Wiley) who enjoy scratch building, craftsman kit building, kitbashing, fine details, structure weathering and modeling realism in the 1940’s era. They like to focus on how-to information on creating awesome structures in the fine scale modeling community and believe that everyone in the hobby can learn to create buildings like the best of the best, it’s just about making the process fun!
  2. Model Rail Radio – Consistently providing the most current and best model railroading content. They pride themselves on providing a show without advertisers and sponsors and they allow their listeners to create the content. Each episode of their show they allow anybody who wants to call in and talk and be part of a show with new and up-and-coming modelers to big names in the hobby.
  3. A ModelersLife – This is a podcast that I’ve been hooked on and tuning in on a lot… And even more, since I learned about their love of hockey and sporadic talk of hockey from time-to-time. But seriously, A ModelersLife podcast is a great podcast that’s out there for all model railroaders to listen to and get a lot of great information from people all over the hobby, and maybe a good laugh a few times too! They keep it fun, funny and informative!
  4. The Model Railroad Hobbyist Podcast – They cover everything associated with model railroading from model train talk, modeling, how-tos and a bunch more on his podcast. With their great team of hosts, they hit a wide variety of topics over a very long-running list of episodes.
  5. The Scotty Mason Show – Now The Mike and Scotty Live Podcast Show – Scott Mason and Mike Rose of Mike Rose Hobbies have a great model railroading podcast that covers the model railroading AND the craftsman kit sides of the hobby. They enjoy the train and the art of a layout and offer a little bit of everything in their show! You can listen to a TON of their older episodes on iTunes and other major podcast platforms, and you can keep up-to-date on all of their new stuff on their website: http://themodelrailroadpodcast.com/
  6. The Roundhouse Podcast – This is a great show for railfans and the host, Nick covers a ton of news about the railroad industry as well as great topics on model railroad layouts, the model railroading hobby and a bunch more! There is a lot of information in here about trains and there are actually some cool episodes in here that offer some history of cool old rail lines. If you’re a history buff and like railroads, this podcast has some good content for you!
  7. The TSG Multimedia Podcast – Video producer and host of the show talks about model trains, and shares stories from his time working on creating documentaries about both railroads and model railroads. This podcast covers model railroads including the technical sides of model railroading as well as some video production topics.
  8. Scale Model Podcast – This podcast is mostly about scale model kit building and they usually cover a lot of military models, but as we’ve talked about quite a bit on our show, many of the trends that we use on our modeling can be applied to model railroading as it’s really not that much different. This podcast is in my rotation as a modeling podcast and I enjoy listening to and checking out the models they talk about!
  9. On The Bench – A podcast created for the scale modeler and also a podcast about modeling mostly military and scale models outside of model railroading, it’s just another podcast on our list that I listen to to get some ideas form for our own work. It’s always good to listen to things outside of our norm as you will often find new things to re-apply in our hobby!
  10. Comment below and we can add to this running list of great modeling podcasts!

Most of these podcasts are directly related to model railroading or fine scale model railroading, but a couple of them are from other modeling hobbies. I find it important to listen, watch, and get techniques from other places outside of model railroading since they are really not that much different than us, but they use a wide range of products and techniques that you might not have thought to use in model railroading!

Comment below and let us know what your favorite model railroading podcast is!

Note: We are not associated with any podcast listed above other than The Bench Time Podcast with HO Scale Customs. All links are provided to you as a service to help you find model railroading podcasts and we have no control over their content. We hope you find their information fun and informative sources for model railroading. Enjoy and keep on modeling!
